Orono

In Orono we ate pizza
And submarine sandwiches
We paid for with nichols and dimes.

And we used to talk for hours.
And we used to kiss on corners.
And every Sunday morning, we'd listen to the chimes.

And we must have made that long walk from Knox Hall to Mill Street
At least a thousand times.

The snow was white
And the winter light was gray.
And together we would keep the cold away.

In Bangor we'd go walking
Because we loved watching
All the people as they'd hurry by.

And you'd always end up waiting
While I went to look at music
And you'd pass the time drawing some face you thought looked wise.

And you would always ask me what it was I saw when
I looked into your eyes.

Your eyes were brown
And in the heart of town we'd smile,
Glad to be away from Orono for awhile.

At Reid State Park we waited
While sitting down on our favorite rock
For the tide to come in.

And you drew pictures of the shoreline
And I tried writing poetry
And we sore that every year we would come do this again.

And all along the water as the seagulls cried above us,
We walked hand in hand and then

When the evening came
And it began to rain and storm,
We headed back to Orono to get warm.

Everything we did we did together
And every song we sang we sang in tune.
We made vows and talked about forever.
I can't believe forever can be over
So soon.
Now I'm in California
And you're somewhere in Boston
Massachusettes, you went there by train.

And we'll never make that long walk
From Knox Hall to Mill Street
And we'll never be together to go hiking in the rain.

And every time I go down to the beach at Santa Monica
I see the coast of Maine.

Though it's a hundred and ten
When I come to the end of the day,
Now I find it hard to keep the cold away.

In Orono we ate pizza
And submarine sandwiches
We paid for with nichols and dimes.
And we used to talk for hours
And we used to kiss on corners
And every Sunday morning we'd listen to the chimes.
